The protests against the government and the House of Representatives that started last week are currently still ongoing.
The protests mostly take place near the House compound in Senayan, Central Jakarta, affecting nearby facilities, including roads and hotels.
Fairmont Jakarta and Hotel Mulia Senayan are among the hotels located near the compound.
Last night, chaos erupted in several parts of Central Jakarta, including in Senayan and Pejompongan. A video circulating on social media appears to show some of the protesters trying to enter the Fairmont Jakarta.
The hotel’s marketing communications manager Malinda Yasmin told The Jakarta Post via messaging app that the protesters bypassed the property.
“They did not go into the hotel as we closed down all entrances and exits,” she said, adding that all guests and staff were safe at the time.
With regard to the current situation, Malinda said the hotel continued to operate normally.
“We remain alert for whatever might happen. We [have] tightened our security measures and are working closely with local authorities,” she said.
Meanwhile, Hotel Mulia Senayan director of communications Hanny Wahyuni Gunawan said the hotel’s occupancy was normal and its events ran as usual, adding that no lockdown was implemented in the property.
“We remain on the alert, [following] the direction of the authorities,” she said. (kes)
